Rod Ashley

Chief Executive Officer

Rod is an experienced Bank Chief Executive and Board Member operating at senior management and leadership level since 2000. In his most recent role, he acted as Chief Executive at Airdrie Savings Bank. He is well known in the industry, having sat on various regulator panels, and is currently on the advisory board of the Adam Smith Business School in Glasgow.

Wendy Morrison

Chief Finance Officer

Wendy is a skilled finance executive with significant experience of operating in senior finance and leadership positions over the last 17 years. In her most recent role, she was Chief Financial Officer of Airdrie Savings Bank and worked extensively with the regulators on financial and reporting matters. Wendy has prior board experience with Nationwide Building Society and has previously worked with Deloitte LLP. Wendy is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

Iain McBride

Director of Operations

Iain is a driven Change / Operational leader and emotionally intelligent team builder. Iain has 25 years experience across retail and commercial banking, and has spent a large part of his career leading successful teams across all the brands at Lloyds Banking Group. More recently, Iain directed change programmes and managed operational teams in other organisations through his consultancy business, before jointly creating Alba with the members of the current Alba team. Entrepreneurial by nature, Iain has a passion to assure great customer experiences and business outcomes. 

John Fisher

Chief Compliance & Risk Officer

With over 30 years experience in risk management in the Banking industry, John brings a significant skill set to bear across the whole of Risk at Alba. Prior to joining Alba John was the Director of Commercial & Credit Risk at Tesco Bank where he spent 7 years, after a period at the FSA as a Senior Risk Specialist. His extensive career has included senior Risk Management roles at Lloyds Banking Group, MBNA and the Co-operative Bank  among others.

Alastair Christmas

Commercial Director

Alastair is a strategy, business development and Chartered Banker executive with 30 years’ experience across the UK. Alastair has held positions of influence at financial institutions including NAB, VM and RBS. As UK Head of Corporate and Structured Finance for Clydesdale Bank plc, Alastair has been instrumental in leading a UK-wide team of c200 corporate and finance professionals winning, developing and managing customers across multi sectors.

Alastair is a Fellow of the Chartered Banker Institute of Scotland and has recently completed his term as Board member of the Confederation of Business and Industry (CBI) Scotland. He is also a Trustee of a local education charity.

Craig McKellar

Head of IT

Craig has spent the past two decades working within a variety of IT environments across both the public and private sectors. Combining a specific focus towards IT infrastructure with a passion for security, Craig has successfully facilitated multiple cloud-based operational models across a range of industries. Craig joined the Alba team in August 2019.

Mark Dow

HR Director

Mark has over 25 years HR experience, 15 years of which being within Banking and Financial Services. Mark has held senior UK and global HR positions in the Royal Bank of Scotland, Airdrie Savings Bank, and prior to joining Alba, The Mortgage Lender where he successfully created the HR function and delivered the 3-5 year HR, People, L&D and H&S strategies.

Mark is a change and continuous improvement practitioner with high Emotional Quotient and is a natural leader of both of people and projects, helping to drive high performance and business success.

Mark is a Chartered CIPD HR professional and Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, Association of Project Management, Institute of Leadership and Management, and the Learning and Performance Institute.

Michael Harriman

Chief Information & Technology Officer - Interim 

Michael is a business and information technology executive who has advised three new UK Challenger Banks, delivering modern digital customer journeys with Cloud based technology. He developed the IT strategy for Redwood Bank, the UK’s first “Born in the Cloud” bank.

Michael has a proven track record in implementing business and IT solutions into first-tier global financial institutions including Citigroup, UBS, Allianz and HSBC. His specialist knowledge includes market risk, financial analytics and investment regulation (MiFID, UCITS, KYC, COREP/FINREP) across multiple jurisdictions.

Non-Executive Directors

The Alba management team is complimented by a vastly experienced group of non-executive directors who provide invaluable support and expertise to the business. There are scheduled to be further, complimentary additions to the team of non-executive directors during the course of 2020, resulting in a real breadth of skill-sets and backgrounds.

Jim McColl OBE

Shareholder, Non-Executive Director

Jim is one of Scotland’s best known and most successful Businessmen and Entrepreneurs. He is Chairman and CEO of Clyde Blowers and has been the chief architect of its impressive growth record since buying into the business in 1992. He has a wealth of experience investing and operating businesses through many economic and market cycles. In the past 20 years he has invested in 20 platform acquisitions, overseen 15 exits including 2 public listings.

He has led a number of public to private transactions, mergers, demergers, spin outs and turn arounds. Jim is the founding shareholder, director and driving force behind the creation of Alba Bank.

Fraser McNeill

Independent Non-Executive Director

Fraser is a senior risk management specialist with more than 20 years of experience working in senior risk management positions within the financial services sector. He is currently the Chief Risk Officer for the Coventry Building Society. A qualified Chartered Accountant, Fraser brings a breadth of experience from start-up banks to building societies.

Neil Holden

Independent Non-Executive Director

Neil is a Chartered Accountant and mathematician with a portfolio of non-executive directorships following an executive career in senior management and risk management in financial services businesses. He currently chairs Audit Committees at Integrated Financial Arrangements Ltd, Saffron Building Society, and Sberbank CIB (UK) Limited, and is a non-executive director of Stanbic International Insurance Limited.

Jeremy Brettell

Independent Non-Executive Chairman

Jeremy is an independent qualified Chartered Director and Fellow of the Institute of Directors, with over 40 years’ experience in the financial services industry. Jeremy is currently on the board of a commercial bank, a major London-based investment platform, and chairs a market-leading, Scottish-based insurance company. Jeremy was Chair of Airdrie Savings Bank and was voted UK Non-Executive Director of the year 2018 by the Institute of Directors.

Anne Weatherston

Independent Non-Executive Director

Anne has recently moved into a full time career as a non-executive director following an extensive executive career which majored on the leadership of business and technology transformation. Anne’s principal expertise is financial services albeit she has worked across a range of industries and in many geographies.

She has led the turnaround of many technology functions within major banks including Abbey/Santander, Bank of Ireland, ANZ and EnergyAustralia. In her last two roles she was responsible for defining and leading an extensive business and IT transformation required to restore organisational stability and control while introducing new digital capability in support of a new business strategy.

Anne is currently a non-executive director of two Australian based Fintech companies; Mint Payments, a listed mobile and electronic payments company and Archa, a start-up focused on the provision of a corporate credit card for SME’s. She has also joined the Board of Piraeus Bank in Greece.
